Supreme Court CAO Willis resigns

April 19, 2018

Indiana Supreme Court Chief Administrative Officer Mary Willis has resigned from her position and is no longer working for the Supreme Court, the court announced Thursday.

The court announced Willis’ resignation in a letter to Indiana’s trial court judges that was provided to the Indiana Lawyer. The letter sent to judges Thursday and signed by the justices of the Indiana Supreme Court offered no details about the reason for Willis’ resignation. A court spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment.

Jane Seigel, current and soon-to-retire executive director of the Indiana Office of Court Services, will serve as interim CAO. Seigel is set to retire from the offices of Court Services on April 30, but will serve in the interim role for the immediate future.

“The CAO position remains vital and we are very thankful that Jane Seigel has agreed to serve as interim CAO effectively,” the letter says. “The Court has great confidence in our staff at the Administrative Office to move forward with the many initiatives we have with you.”

Willis, a former Henry Circuit Court, was chosen to lead the recently created Office of Judicial Administration in 2016. Willis could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
