New Haven man charged in fiery June crash that killed woman

July 11, 2018

A northeastern Indiana man has been charged in a fiery June car crash that killed a passenger.

Twenty-nine-year Jeremy J. Hoerger of New Haven was charged Monday with reckless homicide and driving while intoxicated causing death.

The Journal Gazette reported court documents say Hoerger had a blood-alcohol content of 0.27 percent — more than three times Indiana’s legal limit — when his car failed to negotiate a curve, struck a tree and caught fire.

Witnesses pulled the unconscious Hoerger from the wreck but could not extract 27-year-old Juliet Ann Taylor Schebelt. She died from blunt force injuries.

Online court records did not list an attorney who could speak on Hoerger’s behalf.
